NSD Inland Port is a rail terminal and transload facility based in Terrace, BC. With stable and consistent rail service from CN commodities can now come by rail to Terrace and be transloaded to truck for distribution throughout Northwestern BC.
The site is strategically located to provide a critical supply chain link between Northwestern BC/Yukon/Alaska and the rest of North America.
The site is staffed 365 days per year by operators who are fully CROR qualified, and robust management, safety, and quality control programs are in place allowing safe and efficient railyard and transloading operations.
The site currently handles over 600 rail cars per year. There is 8,000’ of track in place with room to expand to 18,000’ of track. The site is on 27-acres of heavy industrial land providing ample laydown space to support operations.
Rail Yard

NSD Inland Port’s rail yard is strategically positioned on CN’s main line between Prince Rupert and Prince George, but not on the main track. Our turnout is out of CN’s Terrace yard for efficient service. We are serviced twice per week.
The rail yard currently has 8,000’ of track with room to expand to 18,000’ of track. The yard is designed with 3 separate sections: an exchange yard for interfacing with CN, rail car storage tracks, and transloading tracks.
The exchange yard has an inbound, outbound and runaround/overflow track.
- We can receive and dispatch cuts of 15 cars, with room to expand to cuts of 25 cars.
- We have storage space for 30 cars with room to expand to 80 cars.
- We have transloading space for 23 cars with room to expand to 70 cars.
Railway Operations

NSD Inland Port is staffed 365 days per year, 12 hours per day and we handle over 600 rail cars per year. Our operators are fully CROR qualified and move rail cars from the exchange yard to the various storage and transloading tracks, and within the transloading tracks to manage commodity volumes. We have two track mobiles on site for redundancy and snow removal equipment on high-rail gear.
We have a robust administrative staff capable of managing rail car inventory and logistics.
Our safety systems are built to exceed the Railway Safety Act and we maintain a Railway Operating Permit from Technical Safety BC. Our quality control systems are built to exceed industry standards for Petroleum products and other dangerous goods in terms of rail car inspections, track maintenance, etc.
Transloading
Transloading
NSD Inland Port currently transloads Petroleum products and cement powder. The site has room to expand to accommodate an additional 7 commodity-specific rail tracks for additional commodities. There are no restrictions on the types of commodities NSD can handle.
Laydown Space

NSD Inland Port is on 27-acres of heavy industrial land and has ample laydown space for staging commodities in Northwestern BC. Commodity specific lifting equipment can be made available, and our operators are on-site at all time to load or unload.
We have the administrative processes in place to provide inventory management and to liaise with carriers and CN for efficient operations.

NSD Inland Port has a full size, certified scale on site for commercial use.
Access & Security
Access & Security
NSD Inland Port is fully fenced with yard lighting and security cameras. The entrance gate is electronically controlled 24/7 with real-time tracking and reporting of individual drivers. Oversize loads can be safely accommodated at any time with advance notice.
The intersection into the facility has center left turn lanes so that adjacent traffic is not impeded, and the driveway has holding space for 3 trucks outside the gate. Operators perform security inspections of the entire site every 24-hours at minimum.
